Oklahoma City, OK: 2-9 June

Just returned from a trip to Oklahoma City, OK for a National Guard automation conference.  We decided to pull the travel trailer for this trip to see how we do on a long pull.  This was a 2 day pull over about 550 miles.  The first night we stopped in Strafford, MO at a roadside RV park (Strafford RV Park) that made us a bit nervous.  It was a somewhat rundown but we had no issues and just wanted some sleep after a 9 hour drive.

We stayed just south of Oklahoma City at Road Runner RV park.  This park is definitely not one for vacation unless you are exploring Oklahoma City.  The park was right off I-35 about 10 min south of downtown.  We arrived at 1700 and had no issues setting up as we had made a previous reservation over the phone.  The rate was 40.00 a day for full hookups.

The only snafu we had was that the sewer connection was out of reach of our 20 foot hose, so off to Walmart.  Our inventory is now complete; we have extra water hose, electric cable, and now septic line.  Monday I attended the first day of the conference and Jennifer relaxed in the campground.  The temperature started climbing.  The week we were there a heat wave rolled through so the AC got a workout.  After the conference on Tuesday we went downtown to explore Bricktown.  We came across a botanical garden that took up a city block and was free to walk through.

We then walked down the Bricktown River Walk which was similar to San Antonio, just much smaller scale.  Highly recommend eating at Earl's Ribs for some great BBQ

After eating we visited the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial.  Very moving place....

Wednesday we celebrated Chief Ford's birthday at NCED training facility and went to the local casino and ate the buffet with some friends from NGB (CW5 Mike Demers, COL Sharon Moore, CW4 Troy Skaggs, CW3 Ben Reis).  Thursday was a down day in the campground after the conference.

We broke camp Friday and drove to Mt. Vernon, IL and stayed at a small roadside RV (Archway RV Park) for 35.00 a night, full hookups.  Jennifer said this RV park reminded her of the movie "The Hills Have Eyes".  Got back home at midday Saturday.  The trip was great except for the heat, stayed in the low 90's the whole time we were in Oklahoma and on the trip back.

Watched 2 movies while there that I would recommend
2 Guns
21 Grams

Next stop is Dale Hollow State Park
